Saul Jacobson

Dr. Saul Jacobson (born May 5, 1932, died November 7, 2019). He was preceded in death by his wife of over 61 years, Charlotte, who died earlier this year in April. Saul is survived by his children; Sarah Weingart (Erick), Ellen Nathan (Dr. David Nathan), Sam Jacobson (Carl Josehart) and Andrea Jacobson, his siblings; Dr. Len Jacobson (Abbie) and Gloria Jacobson.  In addition, Saul was the loving grandfather to Rachel Weingart and Herschel Nathan.

Saul was born in New York City and attended high school in Blossburg, PA. While attending the University of Buffalo Saul was accepted to dental school at the University of Pittsburgh where he completed his education.  During the Korean War Saul served as a Captain in the army and was part of a MASH unit (mobile army surgical hospital).

Saul met his wife Charlotte at the University of Pittsburgh and they began dating after Charlotte invited Saul to a Sadie Hawkins dance. Their wedding had to wait until Saul returned from serving in the army overseas during the Korean War. After his service in the army Saul opened a practice as a general dentist and then later returned to school, while raising his children, to train as an orthodontist and maintained a practice in Pittsburgh up until his retirement. Charlotte worked at his side managing his orthodontic practice. Throughout his life, Saul was an avid photographer. After retiring, he and his wife relocated to the Chicago area so that they could be closer to their children and grandchildren. In 2012 Charlotte and Saul were pleased to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting Israel together.

A funeral service was held in Chicago, IL., this week. There will be a Shiva Minyan at 6:00 pm, Sunday, November 17th, in the Board Room at Congregation Emanu El, 1500 Sunset Blvd. 77057. Rabbis Oren Hayon and Pam Silk will officiate.

The family has asked that in Saul’s memory donations be made to Jewish Family Service (jfshouston.org), Holocaust Museum Houston (https://hmh.org/) or the charity of your choice.
