Susan Rothenberg

Susan Baum Rothenberg passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband, relatives and close friends. During her seven-year battle with cancer, Susan never lost her humor, quick wit or compassion for others. With her incredible sense of style, she was determined to never look like someone battling this disease.Susan was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Alberta and Jerrold Baum on August 20, 1945. She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark; daughter, Rachel; and son, Zachary. Even though Susan was an only child, she thought of her cousins, the Marx family, like her siblings. Susan was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Mark Kelley.Susan and Mark were married for 35 years. She called him her “Superman.” Susan retired from Exxon to devote herself to raising her children. Spending time with family and friends was most important to Susan. She also enjoyed antiquing and collecting various period pieces that created a lovely home. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 7, 2016, in the Freedman-Levit Sanctuary at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut Street, Houston, Texas, 77096, with Rabbi Jack Segal officiating.In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations in Susan’s honor be sent to MD Anderson (mdanderson.org), Houston Humane Society (houstonhumane.org) or Make-A-Wish Foundation (texasgulf.wish.org).
