Nina Sandler

Nina Sandler, age 96, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, surrounded by her family. Nina was born on December 25, 1927, in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Russia, to Rachmiel Mirkin and Goda Kunina. Nina and her family survived the horrors of World War II, evacuating Leningrad on one of the last trains out of the besieged city. After the war, she graduated from dental college and became one of the most sought-after dentists of her time.

In 1951, Nina married Boris Sandler, and together they raised two children, Michael and Irene. The couple shared 54 years of marriage until Boris’s passing in 2005. In 1984, Nina and her family emigrated to Houston, where she spent the rest of her life. She was deeply devoted to her family, treasuring time spent with her children, witnessing their marriages, and celebrating the births of her four grandchildren.

Nina was a beloved friend, admired for her positivity, resilience, and warmth. Often described as kind, wise, and beautiful, she was known for her compassion and generosity. She will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate to know her.

Nina is survived by her son, Michael Sandler; daughter Dr. Irene Fruchtbaum; grandchildren David and Nicole Sandler, Marc and Eric Fruchtbaum; sister Sofya Mirkina; brother Semion (Mila) Mirkin, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
