Murray Nadler

Murray Nadler passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on September 7, 2017 at the Houston Hospice after a long battle with illness.  He was 82.  Murray is survived by his wife of 56 years Arleen Nadler, his children Bettina Nadler and Jody Sweed, his son-in-law Howard Sweed, his granddaughter  Braelyn Sweed, his sister Phyllis Kossin, his brother-in-law Warren Kossin, and his nieces Laurie Nadler, Elyse Kossin, and Cheryl Roppa. Murray was preceded in death by his brother Solomon Nadler.Murray was born and raised in the Bronx and Brooklyn. He and Arleen settled in Northern New Jersey and later moved to Houston, Texas. Murray earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the Cooper Union, a Master’s Degree in Engineering from New York University, and later in life, a law degree from South Texas College of Law.   Murray had a satisfying 30-plus year career with Exxon. He attended law school in his fifties and went on to practice intellectual property law.Murray lived life with passion. He had a love for intellectual study and analysis, and all who knew him can recount stories about intense debates with him on topics ranging from politics, to biblical history, the life of Abraham Lincoln, or whether the Texans made the right decision on draft day.   He loved to cook – and eat. He loved sports and was a passionate fan of the Texans and the Yankees, his boyhood team.Murray was fiercely devoted to his immediate and extended family and to his friends.  He spent much of his life taking care of and guiding others. This ranged from career and investment advice to how one should cook a proper chicken in the pot.   Murray will be missed by all who knew and loved him.The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for him during his last year of life, especially Irma Garcia and Rosa (Linda) Cadenas, with whom he developed a strong bond and who cared for him with great kindness and love.Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 am, Sunday, September 10, 2017 in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St, Houston, Texas 77074. Interment will follow at graveside.
