Lewis Coveler

December 8, 1944 — February 22, 2014

Dr. Lewis A. Coveler was born in New York City on December 8, 1944, and passed away on February 22, 2014.  He attended the Bronx High School of Science and New York University, obtained his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania.  After a stint in the Army in San Antonio, he and his family settled in Houston.  That was almost 36 years ago.The most important people in Lewis’s life were his wife of 46 years, Linda Coveler; their son Matthew Coveler, spouse Karen, and their two children; their daughter Lori Silverstein, husband Kyle, and their two children; and his brother Fred, wife Gail, and their family.  If ever you wanted to make Lewis smile, you just needed to get him talking—and bragging—about his grandchildren.Dr. Coveler’s specialty was anesthesiology, and he was recognized as one of the best in his field.  As a Professor of Anesthesiology at the Baylor College of Medicine, he trained hundreds of doctors.  Many of his residents describe the awe (and perhaps just a bit of fear) they felt when he walked into the operating room.  He demanded perfection but offered no less of himself.A memorial service will be held at Congregation Brith Shalom, 4610 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401, on Tuesday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m.  Rabbi Ranon Teller will officiate. His sense of humor and wisdom will be missed by everyone who knew him.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his favorite charity: Mazon, 10495 Santa Monica Blvd., Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90025 (www.mazon.org).
