Joel Bromberg, a deeply beloved, kind and compassionate man, made his journey into Heaven on Thursday, October 31, 2024. He was 65 years old. His death was the result of a tragic fire at his home.
A native of Houston, Joel enjoyed studying for his Bar Mitzvah at United Orthodox Synagogue. It was apparent at an early age that Joel had an exceptionally beautiful singing voice. As a teenager, he was inspired and mentored by Cantor Irving Dean. Later, Joel would go on to study at Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a vocal music major. In addition to singing, Joel was a naturally gifted guitarist. After high school, he attended the University of North Texas as a music major. Joel went on to perform professionally in bands all over Houston. Anyone who heard his rendition of a song said it sounded better than the original recording artist. If only he had recorded a CD for all to cherish!
Joel went on to teach himself locksmithing and worked as a master locksmith for over forty years. His clients valued his excellent work and would only call Joel for their needs.
Concern for homeless animals was Joel’s lifelong passion. He was the ultimate pet lover and advocate, every animal’s best friend. His dogs and cats sustained him through times of illness or stress. He was not only a hero to animals, but also to people in need. Whenever Joel encountered a person in crisis, he would stop to help when others wouldn’t. He often gave his last dollar so a stranger could eat.
Joel is survived by his loving wife Martha Lynn Marks, sister Diane Bromberg Patterson and husband Vern, sister Idelle Bromberg, first wife Susan Bromberg, daughter Amy Brown and husband Klark, daughter Rebecca Bromberg, and three grandchildren Haley Hickman, Emily Brown and Mason Brown. Joel was preceded in death by his beloved parents Barbara and Larry Bromberg.
For those wishing to honor Joel’s memory, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, Star of Hope, or the Houston Food Bank. Nothing would make him happier than for caring people to adopt one of his dogs left homeless from the fire; please visit Fire Dogs HTX on Facebook to help this effort. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61568136897999
