Jerry Singerman of Houston, Texas, 65 years of age, died on Monday, October 31st, 2016, surrounded by his family. The cause of death was colon cancer that had been diagnosed 4 ½ years ago.Jerry was born on April 28th, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Charles and Frances Singerman. Jerry devoted his life to his family and to his community. He was actively involved in his synagogue in New Orleans which was founded by his parents. When Katrina forced a move to Houston, Jerry found employment and friendship at Star Furniture. When he became ill 5 1/2 years ago (long before he began treatment) his world reduced in size but it was never without JOY. During Jerry’s struggle he celebrated the marriage of his son Aaron to Dari – he held his first grandchild in his arms for Asher’s Bris – he proudly watched and listened as Aaron grew his business and his reputation – he attended with Lynne, 4 out-of-town family weddings and the miracle of a second grandson. The icing on the cake was the joy of planning and creating a wonderful wedding for Dayna and Ben (and of course the Goodie Bags). Jerry enjoyed and analyzed each step and decision in the wedding process. Lynne’s profound joy was watching Jerry be able to take part in all parts of the wedding weekend, even with his stamina so very low. Sprinkled in between all these happy events were trips to Boca Raton to play Monster Papa with his grandsons, a Birthday gift from Aaron and Dari of a family vacation to Puerto Rico, and gardening projects with Ben and dinner at Dayna and Ben’s newly created home. There was lots of happiness. Even during his illness Jerry considered himself a very lucky man and frequently mentioned that he counted his blessing every day.Jerry would want to THANK his entire extraordinary family for their loving support – a support that never wavered during these past 4 ½ years. He is survived by his beloved spouse of 42 years, Lynne Singerman; His children, Aaron Singerman (Darielle) and Dayna Galloway (Ben); His grandchildren, Asher and Aaden Singerman; His sister, Barbara Singerman Fox (Daniel) and (Susan) the wife of his late Brother, Phillip Singerman of blessed memory. He is also survived by Lynne’s sisters and their spouses; by his Father- in- Law, Jack Hudson; and by his numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.Jerry taught us how to live and how to die. He never lost hope and never sought pity nor sympathy during his struggle. He lived every day to the fullest and as he liked to say “moving forward “.Funeral Services took place 11:00 am on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Freedman-Levit Sanctuary at Beth Yeshurun Synagogue, 4525 Beechnut Street, Houston, 77096; Rabbi David Rosen and Cantor Meir Finkelstein officiating.Burial followed the Funeral Service in Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 1037 North Post Oak Road, Houston, 77055.The family has requested that donations be made to: Rabbi David Rosen’s Discretionary Fund of Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston, Texas.Watch the video of the Funeral / Memorial Service here.
