Irina Ring

December 31, 1969 — October 12, 2019

Irina Ring, 87, passed away October 12, 2019 after a brief battle with kidney cancer. She was born in 1932 in Essentuki, Russia to Lazar and Rosa. She grew up in Kharkiv and Moscow and studied materials science in one of Moscow’s universities, MISIS. On New Year’s Eve 1959, she married Mikhail Ring, with whom she lived with for almost 60 years. Their son, Lev, was born the following year and he inherited Irina’s love for math, science, and chocolate. She was an incredibly devoted mother and spent countless hours building models, helping him with math homework, and chastising him for shooting rockets off their apartment balcony. An animal lover, she got incredible joy from her other two children, a poodle (Atos) and Kerry blue terrier (Aza).For many years, Irina worked as a materials science engineer while, in her spare time, she defended her Moscow Scientist’s Club Ping Pong Champion title. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting, going to the theater, and gardening. Even when she moved to Houston in 1999, she continued to plant cacti in her apartment window and enjoyed their flowers.Irina is survived by her husband Mikhail; son Lev; daughter-in-law Victoria; and granddaughters: Anya and Marina.
