Howard SchachterAge: 76, Pearland TexasHoward Schachter, 76, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2015, at CHI St. Luke’s Hospital, Houston Texas, in the presence of family. Howard was born on September 5th 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. He worked as a company controller and accountant for Nat Sherman – Tobacconist to the World until his retirement in January of 2005. He met his wife, Sylvia (Honey) in 1958 and married in 1960. He began raising a family in Brooklyn before moving to Plainfield, New Jersey.  He welcomed his first son in 1963 and his second in 1970.He was a wonderful father and always made the time to take an interest and support everything his sons were involved in. He had a love for a number of things including Scooby-Doo, animal rescue, garage sales, all-you-can-eat buffets, theater, cruises, Starbucks and especially his family.Howard did not like being called by his name, or being called Grandpa. His preferred name for everyone that voluntarily joined his family was “Pops”. Any friends of his sons, daughters-in-law, or grandchildren were quickly told how to get his attention and that was by calling him “Pops”. Everyone who had the honor of knowing him quickly complied with his request out of love and respect.Howard is survived by his wife, Sylvia Schachter, his sons, Alan Schachter and wife Nairovy, Adam Schachter and wife Kirsten. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ben, Maddie, Amanda, Cristal and Mariela.A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held Sunday, October 18, 2015, at 2:00 pm, in the Chapel at Hardin Family Funeral Home, 9034 Long Point Road, Houston, Texas, 77055.Donations honoring Howard may be made to Houston Humane Society (houstonhumane.org).Watch the video of the Funeral / Memorial Service here.
